Enjoy from my personal collection of NCAA Tournament games. Living in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the time of this game, I got a sense of how rabid the N.C. State fan base could be, with Head Coach Herb Sendek on the hot seat entering this game. I actually had a chance to interview Sendek this season after covering an N.C. State home game against Seton Hall, during which the Pirates whipped the Wolfpack, leaving its fans quite unhappy. Looking like he had seen a ghost, Sendek was very quiet yet professional in his postgame interview. I felt bad for Sendek, who seemed like a true gentleman. Unfortunately, or fortunately, Sendek would lose his job after this NCAA Tournament, even though the Wolfpack would upset Cal in this game. Sendek went on to coach at Arizona State and is now at Santa Clara, where he has done a wonderful job producing pros and getting the Broncos back to the 2026 NCAA Tournament for the first time in 30 years.
