Enjoy from my personal collection of NCAA Tournament games. This Duke team was all the rage when I was living in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the time. With seniors J.J. Redick, Sheldon Williams and Sean Dockery, and freshman Josh McRoberts and Greg Paulus, this Duke squad was a heavy favorite to win it all during the 2006 NCAA Tournament. Of course, that would not be the case as Duke would get upset by LSU in the Sweet Sixteen. As I was doing some freelance sports writing at the time, I actually got to cover a Duke game at Cameron Indoor Stadium, specifically the night when Redick became the all-time leading scorer in Blue Devils' history during a victory against Miami (FL). I remember interviewing Redick in the cramped Duke locker room afterward, with the guard seeming very overwhelmed and tired after his accomplishment. Funny enough, I interviewed Redick another time, after that season, at the season opener of the Durham Bulls minor league baseball team. Redick threw out the first pitch for the game. After he took some batting practice before the game, Redick did a quick interview with me, during which we talked about his relationship with former Illini basketball player Dee Brown. Apparently, Redick and Dee became friends in high school during the McDonald's All-American game and kept in contact throughout their seasons in college. Overall, Redick was very friendly and accommodating on this day. He seems to have changed as an NBA Head Coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, lacking much patience and seeming like he does not want to be interviewed at all. :-)
