Fresh off a couple of improbable victories during the 2026 NBA Playoffs, the Minnesota Timberwolves were brought back to Earth Tuesday night during a 133-95 drubbing by the San Antonio Spurs in Game Two of the Western Conference Semifinals.
The Wolves trailed by 24 at the break as San Antonio avenged a Game One loss during which forward Julian Champagnie missed a game-winning three at the buzzer. The 38-point margin of defeat was Minnesota's worst postseason loss in franchise history.
The Spurs were led by Stephon Castle, who had 21 points, and Victor Wembanyana, who had 19 points and 15 rebounds. Four Timberwolves scored 12 points each, including Anthony Edwards, Julius Randle, Jaden McDaniels and former Illinois star Terrence Shannon Jr.
Starting for the third straight game, Shannon was 4-for-12 from the field but 0-for-4 from three, where he has struggled the past few games, hitting just 1-of-12 from deep. Shannon added 5 rebounds and 1 assist in 24 minutes.
After missing the last two games with a calf injury, former Illini Ayo Dosunmu returned off the bench for Minnesota, going scoreless on four-shot attempts in 10 minutes. Dosunmu later left Game Two with right heel pain and was ruled out for the rest of the night.
It will be interesting to see whether or not Dosunmu suits up for Game Three, which tips off Thursday night in Minneapolis at 8:30 p.m. Central Time.
Minnesota is 3-0 at its home arena, Target Center, so far during the 2026 NBA Playoffs.
The best-of-seven series is currently tied at one game apiece.
