It's been a while since I wrote about the portal, which has obviously slowed down since it closed two weeks ago.
Still, here are some moves that caught my attention during the last week of reviewing the portal on a daily basis.
Still, here are some moves that caught my attention during the last week of reviewing the portal on a daily basis.
- Forward Dennis Parker transfers from Radford to Kansas. After getting the commitment of #1 overall prep prospect Tyran Stokes last week, KU Head Coach Bill Self continues to add around the margins.
- Guard Akai Fleming transfers from Georgia Tech to Cincinnati. Jarrod Calhoun has added a lot of intriguing pieces to the Bearcats after leaving Utah State to become the Head Coach at his alma mater.
- Guard Jadis Jones transfers from Lindewood to USC. Trojans' Head Coach Eric Musselman has always been a good recruiter and identifier of talent. It shall be interesting to see how all of the pieces fit this year as Musselman tries to get the Trojans back into the NCAA Tournament.
- Forward Andrija Bukumirovic transfers from UT Martin to Boston College. While Boston College may be one of the hardest jobs in all of the power conferences, first-year Head Coach Luke Murray is already showing that he can fill out a roster through the portal. I think Murray is going to turn Boston College around.
- Power forward Aaron Bradshaw transfers from Memphis to Tennessee State. TSU Head Coach Nolan Smith, a former guard at Duke, has to be excited to be getting a big like Bradshaw, who has played for Kentucky, Ohio State and Memphis.
- Center Yaak Yaak transfers from Oregon State to Oklahoma. I love the name. Seriously, the expanded and diluted tournament field should benefit Sooners' Head Coach Porter Moser, who has taken Oklahoma to just one tourney appearance in five seasons, often falling short and within the last four out.
- Guard Juke Harris transfers from Wake Forest to Tennessee. Rick Barnes has spent money to build a more offensively explosive roster, with Harris' addition making the Volunteers Final Four candidates. Personally, I am thrilled and shocked Harris didn't end up at Michigan. I believe Harris visited Michigan as the school was having its on-campus celebration of the national championship. I am not sure what else Dusty May could sell to Harris.
- Guard Malachi Palmer transfers from Villanova to Minnesota. Niko Medved has gotten two transfers from Michigan, along with players from Nova, Texas Tech and North Carolina. Can the Golden Gophers be a surprise team to make the expanded NCAA Tournament?
- Guard Joson Sanon transfers from St. John's to West Virginia. Expect Sanon to start for the Mountaineers after coming off the bench for Rick Pitino.
- Guard Paul McNeil withdraws from the portal and stays at North Carolina State. One of the best shooters in the portal, McNeil was the dream of some Illinois fans. Give credit to Justin Gainey for retaining McNeil. I like what Gainey has done so far with N.C. State, adding Christian Hammond from Santa Clara and Darius Adams from Maryland. I did not realize that Boise State transfer R.J. Keene is the son of former Illinois guard Richard Keene.
- Guard Brent Bland transfers from St. Peter's to Miami (FL). This seems like an under-the-radar pickup by Jai Lucas, who is quickly becoming one of my favorite young coaches in all of the sport.
