| While I have been working hard on my coverage of the 1997 NCAA Tournament this week, from John Thompson's and Tim Duncan's last tournaments game to Dean Smith's record-breaking victory, I wanted to share a podcast that I started listening to Thursday night. |
On this week's edition of "The Vertical Podcast with Woj," current Toronto Raptor and former Villanova guard Kyle Lowry served as guest host, speaking with his college coach Jay Wright about Lowry's turbulent two years on campus.
While a bit of a love fest at times, this podcast provided me with a lot of new information about Lowry's two-year college career.
I highly recommended this podcast, which you can listen to here.
Now when I think of Lowry in college, I think of a spark plug who came off the bench for a great team with Allen Ray, Randy Foye, Mike Nardi, Curtis Sumpter, Jason Fraser and Will Sheridan. Three moments especially stand out in my mind:
1) Lowry getting disqualified as a freshman in a Villanova rout of Kansas after he hit a Jayhawk player in the groin.
2) Lowry and Mike Nardi sparking the Wildcats to what should have been upset of North Carolina in the 2005 Sweet Sixteen, had it not been for some terrible officiating late in this game.
3) Lowry returning to Villanova the next season on a stacked No. 1 seed that was cut down by the buzz saw that was Florida, which would win the 2006 and 2007 national championships. Of course, Villanova with Lowry eliminated Florida in the second round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament.
Here are some videos of Lowry playing at Villanova.
