There's no need to deny it.

I am running a bit behind this week as the new school year and a nasty cold have knocked me down to the canvass.

To keep things simple, this week I will be wrapping up the 1997 NCAA Tournament.

I have watched the Arizona-Kentucky game and need to write my review.

After that, each day of this week will review the different daily features that I have done for the 1997 NCAA Tournament, including rankings of these games.

For example, I will list the different 1997 tournament games that I did for the "Wednesday Watch" and rank them according to some criteria I have yet to determine.

As for next week, I will start moving into the 1998 NCAA Tournament!

The first full week of school was a bit chaotic and tiring, so I got a little behind here at The College Basketball Nostalgic.

With that said, I was able to catch up on the site this weekend, and hope to do better this week.

In case you missed anything this week, here's what I wrote.

On Monday, I shared my favorite quotes from Al McGuire in the very first "March Mad Men."
On Tuesday, I examined two lost Sweet 16 games from the 1997 NCAA Tournament, Minnesota-Clemson and Utah-Stanford.
On Wednesday, I watched and reviewed the 1997 Elite Eight classic between Minnesota and UCLA.
On Thursday, I dug deep and found many treasures from the 1997 Elite Eight thriller between Arizona and Providence.
On Friday, I examined the 1997 tournament performance of Providence sophomore guard God Shammgod in the first "Friday Fifteen."
In the "Saturday Summary," I shared news about the NCAA's decision to pull tournament games from North Carolina due to the controversial HB2.

As I hinted during my Arizona - Providence post, the last two Elite Eight games from the 1997 Tournament took place on a special day, my Dad's surprise 40th birthday party.

I will quickly cover this Elite Eight blowout in favor of the Tar Heels.

Wednesday, September 21, 2016: 1997 NCAA Tournament Final Four, Arizona vs. North Carolina
In the latest Wednesday Watch, I will examine how Arizona ended North Carolina's season in Dean Smith's last coached game.

Thursday, September 22, 2016: 1997 NCAA Tournament Final Four, Minnesota vs. Kentucky
The latest edition of Thursday Treasures will explore this competitive Final Four game.

Friday, September 23, 2016: Final Fridays, 1997 Final Four
In my first edition of "Final Fridays," I will wax nostalgic about my love of the 1997 NCAA Tournament.

While back to school this week, I was able to stay afloat and keep the site running relatively smoothly.

In case you missed anything this week, here's what I wrote.

On Labor Day, I introduced my first “Super Squads,” creating an all-NCAA Tournament team from 1997 to 2016 for the University of Arizona Wildcats.
In the "Tuesday Turnover," I examined Arizona’s shocking upset of Kansas in the 1997 Sweet Sixteen.
In the "Wednesday Watch," I reviewed a choppy Sweet Sixteen game between Louisville and Texas.
In "Thursday Treasures," I revisited UCLA’s last second victory against Iowa State in the 1997 Sweet Sixteen.
In the first edition of “Football Fridays,” I used the 1997 Sweet Sixteen game between North Carolina and California to examine the hooping skills of Tony Gonzalez.
In the "Saturday Summary," I linked to Tom Izzo’s Hall of Fame speech from Friday night and included related videos of some his greatest NCAA Tournament moments at Michigan State.

In the latest Wednesday Watch, I will break down this first Elite Eight game from the 1997 NCAA Tournament.

Thursday, September 15, 2016: 1997 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, Southeast Region: Providence vs. Arizona
The latest edition of Thursday Treasures will explore this unexpected Elite Eight clash that would need an extra five minutes to send a participant to the Final Four.

Friday, September 16, 2016: Friday Fifteen: God Shammgod
In my first edition of Friday Fifteen, I want to examine the 1997 NCAA Tournament performance and overall game of Providence point guard God Shammgod, one of the stars to emerge from the 1997 NCAA Tournament.

While returning to school and setting up my classroom this week, I was happy to keep moving through the 1997 NCAA Tournament here at The College Basketball Nostalgic.

In case you missed anything this week, here's what I wrote.

In Monday Memories, I examined John Thompson’s impact at Georgetown and on college basketball while reviewing his last NCAA Tournament game, a loss to UNC Charlotte in the first round.
In the Tuesday Turnover, I examined the controversial ending to the second round game between Cincinnati and Iowa State, and included a Tragic Tuesday review of an Illinois loss to UT-Chattanooga in the second round.
In the Wednesday Watch, I reviewed Dean Smith’s record-setting 877th coaching win via North Carolina’s second-round victory against Colorado.
In Thursday Treasures, I commended a great Stanford defensive effort during a second-round victory against Wake Forest that ended the collegiate career and Final Four dreams of Tim Duncan.
In Friday Favorites, I used an obscure second-round game between UNC Charlotte and Utah to foreshadow bigger things to come for both programs in the 1998 NCAA Tournament.
In the Saturday Summary, I linked to an interesting podcast between Kyle Lowry and Villanova Head Coach Jay Wright, during which both talked about Lowry’s ups and downs in college.

While I will begin teaching as the kiddos return on Tuesday, I still have high hopes for providing some great content throughout the next seven days.

As Arizona won the 1997 NCAA Tournament, the Wildcats are the perfect team to build my Super Squad of an all-time tournament team for that university in the past 20 years.

While only parts of this game are available on YouTube, I want to provide some context for this upset.

Wednesday, September 7, 2016: 1997 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen, East Region: Louisville vs. Texas
In the latest Wednesday Watch, I will break down this up-and-down game between two teams that were not expected to be in the Sweet Sixteen.

Thursday, September 8, 2016: 1997 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen, Midwest Region: UCLA vs. Iowa State
The latest edition of Thursday Treasures will explore this buzzer-beating finish between the Bruins and Cyclones.

Friday, September 9, 2016: 1997 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen, East Region: North Carolina vs. California
In my first edition of Football Fridays, I will not only review this game but examine the hooping abilities of California forward and future NFL star Tony Gonzalez.

In the past week The College Basketball Nostalgic began its coverage of the 1997 NCAA Tournament, and I am happy to say that I was very pleased with the quality of content.

In case you missed anything this week, here's what I wrote.

In "Monday Memories," I detailed the impact that the 1997 NCAA Tournament had on my life at the time, and then shared some recollections that I still have from each day of games from that tourney. (Editor's Note: In reviewing the Carolina - Fairfield game, I realized that the Arizona - South Alabama game took place later than I realized. I have updated this information in the Monday post.)
In the "Tuesday Turnover," I did a YouTube review of the 1997 NCAA Tournament, listing the games that are available online and creating a wish list of games that I would love to watch again or for the first time. I was happy to find two more games this week that I did not realize were on YouTube, UNC Charlotte's first and second games against Georgetown and Utah. I will be reviewing those games this week.
In the "Wednesday Watch," I did a thorough game review of Coppin State's historic upset of South Carolina during the first round of the 1997 NCAA Tournament. This upset marked (at the time) just the third time since the field expanded to 64 teams that a No. 15 seed had defeated a No. 2 seed.
In "Thursday Treasures," I thoroughly examined some of the gems that took place during Dean Smith's history tying 876th career win during during No. 1 seed North Carolina's tight contest a game No. 16 seed Fairfield Stags.
In "Friday Foreshadowing," I did a box score analysis of the performances of various players during the first round of games in the 1997 NCAA Tournament.
On Saturday, I decided to skip my weekly summary of college basketball events (I will begin that this coming week) and introduced my criteria for Super Squads, my 12-man dream teams for different universities throughout the last 20 years of NCAA Tournament play.

What's on Tap for this Week

While I am returning to school this week and will be working on setting up my classroom, I still have high hopes for providing outstanding content throughout the next 7 days.

Once the school year starts, I will be using the weekends to work on the coming week's content; thus why the weekend content may be a bit limited at times.

With that said, this week is going to feature a game review each day!

1997 NCAA Tournament First Round, West Region: UNC-Charlotte 49ers vs. Georgetown Hoyas
In what would turn out to be John Thompson's final NCAA Tournament game, I will use this contest as a vehicle to discuss my experiences with Hoya Paranoia in a new version of "Monday Memories."

1997 NCAA Tournament Second Round, Midwest Region: Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Iowa State
I will examine the controversial ending to this second-round game in a new edition of "Tragic Tuesdays."

Wednesday, August 31, 2016:
1997 NCAA Tournament Second Round, East Region: North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Colorado Buffaloes
In the latest "Wednesday Watch," I will break down this history-breaking game for Dean Smith, who became at the time the all-time winning college basketball coach in Division-I with the Tar Heels victory against Colorado.

Thursday, September 1, 2016:
1997 NCAA Tournament Second Round, West Region: Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. Stanford Cardinal
The latest edition of "Thursday Treasures" will explore some of the gems that took place during Stanford's upset of Wake Forest in Tim Duncan's final collegiate game.

Friday, September 2, 2016:
1997 NCAA Tournament Second Round, West Region: Utah Utes vs. UNC Charlotte 49ers
In my first edition of Friday Favorites, I will use this second-round game against Utah as a vehicle to describe my surprising and unlikely affinity for UNC-Charlotte at this time of my life.

This week The College Basketball Nostalgic will be taking a deep dive into the 1997 NCAA Tournament, which brings back so many positive memories.

Here is what I have planned for this week's content.

Monday, August 22, 2016: Top Memories of the 1997 NCAA Tournament
Since I was a young kid, I have always been able to frame personal memories around major sporting events, with this especially being the case for the NCAA Tournament. For Monday's post, I am going to describe some memories that I have for each day of the 1997 NCAA Tournament. I guarantee that this will be a fun and entertaining post.

Tuesday, August 23, 2016: YouTube Review of the 1997 NCAA Tournament
Back in 1997, I was a freshman in high school. At the time I was hoping to record the entire 1997 NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately, I did not have any money to buy VHS tapes and thus only recorded the first two days of the tournament, which I later taped over with Chicago Bulls playoff games that spring.

With that history in mind, I will be utilizing YouTube to review different games from the 1997 NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately, there are not as many games from this tournament on YouTube as I would like, though there are enough interesting games to get started. For Tuesday's post, I am going to review what is on YouTube and also create a list of games that I would love to watch again from this tournament. Once I get to the 1999 NCAA Tournament, my game reviews will be more thorough as I recorded every game that was shown in Chicago that year.

Wednesday, August 24, 2016: Wednesday Watch of Coppin State Eagles versus South Carolina Gamecocks
This week's Wednesday Watch will review a somewhat forgotten game between No. 15 seed Coppin State and No. 2 seed South Carolina, an upset that occurred for just the third time since 1985 when the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams.

Thursday, August 25, 2016: Thursday Treasures of Fairfield Stags versus North Carolina Tar Heels
Never before in the NCAA Tournament has a No. 16 seed defeated a No. 1 seed. During the 1997 NCAA Tournament, such an upset almost occurred as Fairfield gave North Carolina all it can handle during a game that would be historic for other reasons.

Friday, August 26, 2016: Friday Foreshadowing of the First Round of the 1997 NCAA Tournament
As there are not that many first round games of the 1997 NCAA Tournament on YouTube, I plan to use Friday to review some of the box scores from the first round of games and note some interesting performances from players who would go on to star in future tournaments.

Saturday, August 27, 2016: Saturday Summary of The Week in College Basketball
On Saturday, I will review the week that was at The College Basketball Nostalgic and provide any major updates as to what happened in college basketball.
